Deborah Apps was appointed to the board of the Health Quality Council of Alberta in June 2016. She served as Acting Chair of the board in 2018, and is a member of the Executive Committee and the Audit and Finance Committee. She is also the HQCA board representative on the Health Quality Network. Ms. Apps is currently President & Chief Executive Officer for Trans Canada Trail, and is a charitable sector leader with more than 25 years of experience in government, healthcare, education, and the arts.
Ms. Apps has a strong record of accomplishment in organizational leadership, strategic planning and change management. Formerly, she was Senior Vice President of Communications and Community Relations for the Calgary Health Region, and President & Chief Executive Officer of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation. She also led the UBC Alumni Association, and served as the Director of Advancement for Pearson College. Ms. Apps is actively engaged as a volunteer, lending her professional expertise to the Rick Hansen Foundation, and to the East Coast Greenway Advisory Committee.
In recognition of her extensive and ongoing work in the charitable sector and for her commitment and dedication to the Trans Canada Trail legacy project, she was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal in 2012. In 2016, Deborah was also elected a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, for her continuing work in the development of The Trans Canada Trail.
